A Ketubah is a Jewish marriage certificate that is usually ornate and decorative, the first piece of art that can be displayed in the home of the newlyweds. The design of this particular Ketubah was commissioned by a bride-to-be who was unhappy with the few “customizable yet generic” options she’d been able to find.
She had a specific image in mind of a stained-glass window depicting Jerusalem with a clear sky and love birds. I worked with the printer to allow for the black lines of the design to be printed in raised ink that puffed up to add an element of texture and dimensionality reminiscent of stained glass. An option was even explored to print the final design on translucent white plastic, so that it could be displayed in a backlit frame, so that it would always appear as if it was a true stained glass window at twilight.
